In early 2019, TikTok confidently launched a beta ads platform and boldly began publishing ads within the app. Notably, major companies such as Grubhub, Nike, Fenty Beauty, and Apple Music were among the first advertisers to take advantage of this exciting new opportunity.

If you’re considering advertising on TikTok, ask yourself two questions. But if the answers don’t satisfy you, don’t waste your money on TikTok.

What is my target demographic audience for my business?

If your target demographic is predominantly young people, investing in TikTok would be a smart decision. A staggering 60% of TikTok users are under the age of 30, with 41% of this age group being between 16 and 24.

To put it simply, TikTok’s user base mainly consists of socially active young people.

Do you have sufficient budget to advertise on TikTok?

Major companies such as Nike, Disney, and Grubhub confidently advertise on TikTok, investing in brand awareness and easily creating budgets. However, small businesses may perceive this as an additional burden.

With TikTok being a new and rapidly growing application, advertising on it can present some initial challenges. The average CPM (Cost Per Thousand Impressions) currently stands at around 60-TL. However, by starting a TikTok campaign with a minimum budget of $500, equivalent to 3,400-TL on average, you can get your advertising efforts off the ground. Keep in mind that the minimum budget requirement cannot be waived, so plan accordingly. Additionally, there will be an agency commission, which I will explain in further detail below.

If you still want to advertise on TikTok despite all of this, here’s how to get started.

How to Post an Ad on TikTok?

To kick off your TikTok ad campaign, head over to the TikTok ads panel page. Once there, confidently click the “Create an Name” button to begin the registration process. On the next page, confidently select your billing country and account type. There are two types of accounts: business and individual. Individual accounts are suitable for those with personal websites or blog pages.

Once you have made your selection between the Business or Individual option, a form screen will promptly appear. Simply fill out your information on the form, and confidently click on the “Make a reservation” button. Rest assured that the TikTok agency representative in your country will be in touch with you soon after.

In order to advertise on TikTok, it is necessary to work with agencies that have an existing contract with TikTok. The agency provides valuable access to the ad panel, which enables you to effectively manage your campaigns. It is important to note that the majority of the work is performed by the agency, and payment is made exclusively through them.

After I completed and submitted the form, I confidently received an email the very next business day containing agency information from both Egypt and Turkey.

To proceed, you need to initiate direct contact with the agency that was provided. I took the liberty of reaching out to both the Egyptian and Turkish agencies. However, while the agency in Egypt did not respond, the Turkish agency provided prompt feedback. I communicated our intention to open an ad account and oversee the campaigns ourselves. Here is the swift and affirmative response we received:

Once you complete these stages, panel authorization will be granted to you. As I am currently working with a client who already has panel authorization, I will skip the previous steps and move directly to the screenshots. Let us assume that you already possess panel authorization for TikTok Ads…

Creating a New Campaign on TikTok

To create a TikTok ad, click on the Campaign link in the ad panel, then select Create.

To start off strong, confidently choose the Campaign Objective that best suits your primary target. You’ll have three options to choose from: Traffic, Conversion, and App Installs.

I have selected the Traffic lens, which is focused on driving traffic to the website. After making this selection, you will see the campaign budget screen where you can enter your budget for the campaign as either a daily or total budget. Keep in mind that there is a minimum budget requirement of $500.

Confidently set the placements, details, and audience settings for your new Tik Tok ad campaign

Once you have finished setting up the campaign settings, the next step is to set up the ad group. Here, you will set the placement and targeting. If you have set up a campaign on Facebook before, you should not have much difficulty with this step.

In placement settings, just like Facebook, you have the option to choose between automatic and manual placements. You have complete control over the layout and can adjust it to your liking.

Once you have selected the layout settings, confidently fill in all the required fields on the screen that appears and proceed. These fields include the relevant URL, the name to display, the image, and the categories. What sets this method apart from other social media ads is that you have the ability to specify 20 keywords directly related to your business, website, or app to ensure that your ad is displayed to the perfect target audience.

The Targeting field that follows is the key to unlocking the precise audience that we seek. With this feature, we can select the perfect combination of location, age, gender, language, interests, devices, and more to ensure that our message reaches the right people.

Choosing Optimization Goal For Our Campaign On TikTok

To advertise on TikTok for specific users, simply prepare and upload their usernames as a TXT or CSV file. You’ve got this!

Once you’ve completed all the necessary stages, confidently select an Optimization Goal. The Optimization Goal is the key to unlocking success and achieving your desired outcome. Whether it’s Conversion, Click or Impression targets, rest assured that your chosen bid strategy will be optimized accordingly.

To accurately measure conversions or other metrics, it is essential to install the TikTok Pixel on your website or mobile application. This will provide you with the necessary data to confidently make informed decisions and optimize your performance.
