New Advertising Platform Launched - Meta Begins Testing Ads on Threads
0:000:00

Threads, Meta's social media platform. In Turkey, it launched on July 6, 2023 and reached 40 million users within 24 hours.

However, the Competition Board shut down Threads in Turkey on April 29, 2024, saying "what you're doing is wrong." Threads accepted the penalties, fulfilled its obligations, and became active again in Turkey on November 23, 2024, closing the investigation.

About 2-3 days ago, on January 24, Threads announced that it's starting to display ads on the platform. However, these ads are currently being tested only for specific companies in the United States and Japan.

Not yet active in Turkey and other countries, but after testing is complete, it will roll out to other markets.

When Threads shut down in Turkey, I thought "that's good." Why? Because we already have enough social media platforms. Did we really need another one?

Now you might say, "Threads is different." But how different? Compared to Twitter (or X), it's essentially identical. On Threads, you write posts, share content, and add visuals or videos.

Instagram, on the other hand, is more visual and audio-focused. Recently, it became common to share screenshots of Twitter texts on Instagram. People started writing long posts in Stories.

Seeing this, Meta decided, "Then let's create a text-based platform" and launched Threads. However, in this process, they ran into some competition violations and were forced to shut down in Turkey.

Threads made the necessary adjustments to re-enter the Turkish market and is currently active. So what's the most important topic for us? Ads.

Meta didn't create a new ad platform for Threads. We'll manage Threads ads through Meta's Business Manager (Ad Management Panel).

In other words, from the same panel where we manage Facebook and Instagram ads, we'll also manage Threads ads. If you enable Advantage Placement (Smart Placements), you'll be able to automatically advertise on Threads. If you make manual selections, you'll soon see Threads as the fifth ad placement option.

Currently being tested only for specific companies in the United States and Japan.

The ad model on Threads will be like Twitter's. That is:

• A visual at the top

• Text below

• Title section

• "Sponsored" label

It will be a format similar to ad models in Facebook and Instagram Feed.

1. You don't need a new Pixel code.

• The pixel you use for Facebook and Instagram will also work for Threads.

2. For now, only image ads can be displayed.

• Video and other formats may come later.

3. A special Threads ad design is required.

• It may not be exactly compatible with Instagram and Facebook visuals; you'll need to upload a design specifically for Threads.

This system will soon be available for all advertisers and agencies.

In the next podcast, I'll discuss Valentine's Day campaign strategies.
